Thinking of PHOTOGRAPHY as an ART.
We all know that, time don’t wait. Rather it can’t be stopped. That’s why, the moment gone is gone forever. We can’t experience it later. That’s why we have to experience every moment itself and live in it. But even every time that’s not possible due to some unavoidable circumstances. World doesn’t always run our way. But man has not kept quiet by assuming this as the limit. Man has innovated this wonderful machine called ‘CAMERA’ with help of science and technology. This has again proven that, when there is will, there is a way. Since then, the term ‘Photography’ is known to us, which simply means the process of using camera.
Actually, the word PHOTOGRAPHY is a Greek word and is made from two small words, ‘Photo’ and ‘Graphy’. It has much variations in the meaning, if searched on internet. But roughly, Photography can be explained as the ‘painting made with the help of light’.
Just imagine, a wonderful moment is happening right in front of you and we want to capture it for our lifetime. Or we just want to share that moment with those, who are not present there. At that time we unknowingly take our hands to our pockets to grab our mobile. Now-a-days, this situation is so common that it has become a part of our lives.
Actually, the action of grabbing mobile and clicking the picture is somewhat simple and straight forward. But then also one photo appears to be awesome and another photo looks so normal to our eyes. Why this happens? Now many will say that it is because the person has a better camera or a high end phone. This statement is neither 100% correct nor 100% wrong. This is just like saying that, a person’s handwriting is good because he/she has a good pen. That’s not the complete truth. Even it’s true that better equipment helps in creating good stuff, the main reason behind good results is the art within the person. So, to get better pictures, one must have art in him/her and a vision of an artist.
I get a lot of questions regarding this. Let’s see some of them below.
1) Do someone needs to learn photography? After all, it’s just a click.
- Right. But as there is a difference between ‘Eating for just fulfilling stomach and eating with pleasure’, there is also a difference between ‘Taking a snapshot and clicking a photo’. So, it’s good to learn photography. Because moments happen only once. If you don’t capture them, then you can’t do anything but regret. For example, you have gone for trekking on a beautiful mountain and there is an awesome view of sunrise or sunset from the cliff. You want to capture that beauty exactly as it is, in your camera. But if you don’t know right camera settings, then everything is over. Forget about it.
2) What’s the benefit of learning photography?
- There are ton of benefits. If you want to capture and cherish the happy moments for your life or you want to share your experience about something with your loved ones, then there no better way than photography, to do this. Just take the same example from earlier question, of getting an awesome photo of sunset form a cliff. If done with right settings, this will create a beautiful memory and when you share it with your parent’s or friends, the happiness on their faces is just limitless. These type of small memories are formed with the help of photography. And I can assure this form my own experiences.
3) Is photography difficult?
- Not at all. If understood correctly, it’s an easy art.
4) How one can learn it?
- Just like all other arts, photography has many sources to learn from. For example, you can learn it from tuition, classes, with help of online learning, by reading books, by self-study. And the simplest and reliable way of learning is by reading the posts of my blog.
5) How much time it takes to learn photography?
- No any art is learnt overnight. It needs time and patience. But if the results are this sweet, then it is worth investing your time. Isn’t it?
Many of us get questions like this. Frankly speaking, when I started learning photography, I was in the same place as you are right now. But if you decide, learning photography is a simple and joyful process.
Now let’s see, what is required to be learnt in photography.
